Frequently Asked Questions

What is “pack play?”

Pack Play is when the dogs play “loose” as they would in a dog park.  All play at The Ranch is supervised by at least one human at all times.

What else do I need to know about pack play?

Your dog will come home tired and probably a little bit dirty (a sure sign that they had a great time!). Their activity level while here at The Ranch is usually higher than at home. From time to time, dogs will suffer a scrape or scratch from playing with each other. If we notice it, we will let you know. If there is an injury requiring additional care, we will notify you immediately and take appropriate action to get them to medical care.

How do I get started?

The way to get started is to Schedule a Tour. The tour and evaluation takes about 30 minutes. You can utilize the “Contact Us” tab on our website or email [email protected] to schedule a tour. If you would prefer to give us a ring you will speak with Valeka or Wendee at 512.264.2224. We charge $20 for all tours and evaluation service no matter how many humans or canines are in your pack.

All of our services are by appointment only and your pup(s) must be present for the tour and evaluation.

What Vaccinations are Required?

We do require all dogs be current with Rabies, Distemper, Parvo, Canine Influenza H3N2 and Bordatella vaccinations. We also require your dog(s) to have had a Fecal Float done at the time of their annual exam. A fecal float is a test done to detect parasites. A monthly Flea Preventative is required (flea collars are NOT premitted as they are not good for other dogs to mouth on). There are oral and topicals you can speak to your Veterinarian about to decide what would be best for your pack.

We highly recommend but do not require: Leptospirosis, Canine Influenza H3N8 vaccinations and a monthly heart-worm preventative. You can speak with your Veterinarian to learn more about these recommendations if you are unfamiliar with them.

What is an Evaluation?

Our tour and evaluation appointments are an opportunity for our prospective clients to see everything The Ranch has to offer. We feel it is important for you to see where your dog(s) will be playing and sleeping. During the tour and evaluation, the dogs visiting The Ranch for boarding or daycare are placed in their assigned bunk spaces giving you the opportunity to view the facilities without being confronted by a pack of wagging tails. The Ranch owners, Wendee and David, have 7 dogs we refer to as the “Ranch Crew” and they are introduced to your dog(s) during the evaluation.  The Ranch Crew members range from 10 to 90 lbs, all of different breeds and temperaments and ages. Having your pup(s) meet the Ranch Crew helps us to see how your dog interacts and behaves within a small pack environment. Every dog reacts differently but most enjoy meeting our pack and touring the ranch with them. If your dog displays aggression during the interview, he or she is likely not a good fit for our pack play environment. All tours are scheduled by appointment only. Please review “How Do I Get Started?” in our FAQ section for additional information. You may schedule an evaluastion by emailing [email protected] or by calling 512-264-2224 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

Do dogs stay outside all day?

We have dogs going in and out all day long!.  From 9am – 3:30pm, we alternate playgroups so all of the dogs get ample time outside. During the wintertime, they average 4-5 hours outside while in summertime it’s approximately 3-4 hours. Weather always plays a role as well during playtime –  high temperatures, heavy rain, thunder and lightning will interrupt play time.

How does Day Care work?

Dogs love a day at the Ranch and we love to have them! Our drop off and pick up times are SEASONAL, so please refer to our Hours.  It is very helpful to know when you will be dropping off and picking up your pup, so we will likely ask you for a 30-60 minute window.  We have Day Care 7 days a week, excluding Holidays.

From time to time your dog will receive a Daycare Report Card that lets you know what kind of a day your camper enjoyed.

What if I can’t drop off or pick up my dog during those hours?

We may be able to accommodate early or late drop offs if scheduled in advance. Please call to make arrangements. There will be an additional fee for such an accommodation. Drop offs or pickups outside of our posted times are subject to a convenience charge of no less than $10 for daycare clients and $50 for boarding clients.

What about your Pet Pick Up and Delivery Service? Can I use that for Day Care?

Certainly! We are out on weekdays picking up our “regulars” in surrounding neighborhoods and bringing them to The Ranch for the day. The pick up and drop off hours are entirely dependent on who we are picking up or delivering that day. Please call to find out if we can include your dog during the week.  Fees for pick up and drop off will vary on your location and are charged per pack. 48 hours notice must be provided for all pickups and deliveries. A $25 fee may be assessed for pickup and delivery schedules requested with less than 48 hours notice.

What if my dog has special needs while at Day Care?

We are happy to feed your dog, give him or her medicine, or give extra love and TLC while they are visiting us. Be sure to let a Ranch Hand know when you check-in if there are an special requirements for your dog while in our care. As with any medication brought to The Ranch, please include a note providing the appropriate administering directions, frequency and how best to administer the medication to your pup. All of that information helps to ensure that our Ranch Hands give your dog what they need to stay healthy and happy!

What about boarding?

The fun continues for those lucky dogs that stay with us! After enjoying a play-filled day, our boarders are fed at approximately 4:00pm in their assigned crate or room, allowing them to relax for a bit. The boarders are let out again to enjoy the beautiful Texas sunset over The Ranch. The tuckered out pups return to their bunks for the night by 7:30pm (Summer) or dusk (Winter). Both of our facilities, the Dog House and the Bunkhouse, are climate-controlled and are electronically monitored throughout the night. Ranch life starts daily with a brisk walk and potty break. Morning chow (breakfast to non-ranch folk!) is served between 8:00am – 9:00am.

Our routine each day is important. Dogs acclimate quickly and thrive at The Ranch when their schedule is predictable.

Food (preferably in a container labeled with your dog/s name/s), Bed/Blanket, Treats (if picky), Toy (if ours in the yard aren’t enough) and Medication if necessary. *

We prefer you supply the Food for your dog’s stay with us – it’s the one thing we can keep from their current routine. If your dog has a favorite blanket or bed, be sure we can unzip the bed cover to wash if necessary. You can bring a toy or something to keep in their space. If your dog requires daily medication please be sure to have a note specifying administration, including times of day.

*Be sure to label all belongings. We are not responsible for any lost items.

Is there anything I shouldn’t bring for my dog while they board?

We have plenty of bowls for feeding and leashes (when we need them). Please feel free to keep those items at home.

Are there other services my dog can take advantage of while at Day Care or Boarding?

Yes! If your dog needs a Ranch Bath (wash and towel dry), Nail Trim, or a Full Groom, we are happy to schedule that during their stay.  If you request any grooming services, your dog will be available for pick up after 11:30am on the day he or she is checked out. Fees for grooming services will vary according to coat and size of the dog(s).

Can my dog stay for Day Care after boarding the night before?

Yes, the Day Care rate will apply ($27 per dog) if you pick them up after 10:30am.

Please Note:  If your dog is scheduled for a Ranch Bath or Grooming appointment on their check out day, the earliest your dog(s) can check out is 11am and no Day Care fee will be applied.
